Volunteer Research Assistants

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer research assistant in the Psychology, Health, and Sexuality (Phase) Lab! We are an interdisciplinary team of sexual health and well-being researchers at UBC who work with Lab Director, Dr. Katrina Bouchard, Registered Psychologist. For more information about Dr. Bouchard and the Phase Lab, please visit:

We encourage applications from UBC students interested in sexual and vulvar health research. Members of our lab are typically enrolled in health-related disciplines (e.g., biology, medicine, nursing, psychology, science, women’s health research, etc.). Please note that only UBC students are eligible for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology volunteer program. We typically accept new volunteer research assistants three times a year, corresponding with the start of each academic term (i.e., September, January, May).

The Phase Lab is located off campus in the Vancouver General Hospital Research Pavilion (828 West 10th Avenue) and our lab meetings are held in person at the Diamond Health Care Centre (2775 Laurel Street). The Phase Lab follows a hybrid work model and some in person volunteer tasks will be required on a regular basis.

Volunteer research assistants must be able to commit to a minimum of 4 hours/week for a minimum of 4 months (one academic term). Volunteer tasks may include building and piloting online surveys, supporting participant recruitment and data collection (e.g., postering, participant screening calls), creating content for knowledge translation on social media, participating in lab meetings, and collaborating on other tasks with lab members as needed.

As of 1 Jan 2026, volunteer research assistant applications are only accepted via Qualtrics survey (not by email). A PDF of the full application is linked below for your reference/preparation. Some questions are open ended, so you may wish to prepare your responses in a Word document, then paste them into the survey cells to avoid losing any of your work.
