HOLD Trial

Do you or your partner currently experience low sexual desire? We are seeking couples living in British Columbia to take part in a new treatment study for low sexual desire, called the Helping with Outcomes for Low Desire Randomized Clinical Trial (HOLD Trial).

What’s involved?

First, you and your partner will complete a brief screening process to check your eligibility for the trial. If eligible,

  • You and your partner will be asked to complete three 30-45 minute surveys over a period of 12 months.
  • You and your partner will be randomly assigned to either complete 16 sessions of cognitive-behavioural couple therapy over 18 weeks on Zoom right away, or be on the waitlist for treatment.
    • During the 18 week period, you will be asked to complete five 15-20 minute surveys regardless of whether you are receiving treatment or are on the waitlist.

Who is eligible?

  1. You or your partner have been experiencing low sexual desire for 6 months or more.
    • The person with low sexual desire is a woman (cis or trans) or a gender diverse person assigned female at birth.
  2. You and your partner are both 18+ years of age.
  3. You and your partner have been in a relationship and living together for at least 1 year.
  4. You and your partner are both fluent in English.
  5. You and your partner have an email address and regular access to the Internet.

We warmly welcome BIPOC, trans and gender diverse, and LGBQ+ individuals and couples to participate, all of whom have been historically underrepresented in sexuality research.

Compensation

Compensation for completing online surveys is $100 CAD per person ($200 CAD per couple). You will only be compensated for surveys you complete. Treatment is complimentary (free).
